Brussels Sprouts…. Did you know about this?

Brussels Sprouts
Now if you are like me you may not be a fan of these little cabbages. They can be a lot of work to prepare, having to wash, cut and peel each one and depending on how they are cooked the taste may not be all that appealing.

Brussels sprouts very well for you even though they don’t also taste great. Why is it that all the unhealthy stuff taste so great and the healthy stuff not so much?

Brussels sprouts are rich in many valuable nutrients. They are an excellent source of vitamin C and vitamin K. They are a very good source of numerous nutrients including folate, manganese, vitamin B6, dietary fiber, choline, copper, vitamin B1, potassium, phosphorus, and omega-3 fatty acids.

I am going to start off with, there is no part of me that wants to sit there and clean, cut and peel a bag full of these just to have them as a side for a meal, but after finding a great way to cook them I do like to enjoy them on a regular bases. Now you are probably wondering how I get around this little preparation predicament. Well…. I head to my local grocery store and make my way over to the frozen vegetable section rather than the fresh produce section 🙂

Now lets talk about how to make something healthy taste great and stay healthy!

  1. Pre heat over to 380° fahrenheit
  2. Chop up a purple onion.
  3. Peel and chop a sweet potatoes into bite size cubes.
  4. Take a few thick slices of ham and cut it into bit size pieces
  5. Grab a 2 pound bag of frozen brussels sprouts and place them into a roasting pan.
  6. Add your onion, sweet potatoes and ham to the pan and mix together.
  7. Add a 1/8 cup of Cooking Essence Garlic Infused Olive Oil and a 1/8 cup of Cooking Essence Basil Infused Olive Oil
  8. Add 1/4 cup of Cooking Essence Black Currant Infused Balsamic Vinegar
  9. Add 1 tbsp. of The Spice Depot Salad Seasoning
  10. Add 1/4 cup of rum
  11. Mix everything together and place in the over for about 45 minutes or until tender.

Halal?

Ever wonder what Halal means? There is a lot of confusing and misperception on what it is and what it means.

Halal-Sliced-Meats
New Line of Products Distributed by Everfresh Distribution Inc.

Halal is an Arabic word that means “permissible.” In terms of food, it means food that is permissible according to Islamic law. For a meat to be certified “halal,” it cannot be a forbidden cut (such as meat from hindquarters) or animal (such as pork.)

The slaughter of a halal animal is called “zabihah” and there are certain guidelines to follow:

The instrument must be very sharp to ensure humane slaughter.

The animal must be slit at the throat.

The animal must not be unconscious.

The animal must be hung upside down and allowed to bleed dry. Eating blood is not halal.

These steps must be accomplished by a Muslim or the People of the Book (Christian or Jew.) Many observant Muslims find kosher meat acceptable.

The animal must have been fed a natural diet that did not contain animal by-products.

Steak Steak Steak

2015-03-30 20.06.36

Well I like steak…. Tonight I cooked a fantastic Rib Eye using my simple recipe. If you missed the post you can check it out now.

STEAK!

Tonight I had it with some fresh sauteed zucchini and mushrooms.

The zucchini was nice and simple. I slice it up then cut the slices in half. I then tossed them in a pot with some Cooking Essence Basil Infused Olive Oil, green onions and fresh garlic. I put them on medium/low and let them saute for about 10mins until they were tender.

Want some great mushrooms to go along with your steak like I had? Check out my Juicy Tender Pork Chops post. Near they end I tell you how to make some great tasting mushrooms.
